Spring 2015 Guide to Paris

Spring is on its way, we promise! Are you going to be joining us to celebrate the return of bright sunny days and blossoming trees? If so, you might be interested in knowing just a few of the exciting events that will be taking place this springtime, from sport, literature and music to cinema and art…

Paris Events – Spring 2015

Sport

Sports enthusiasts, or anyone who admires the thrill of the race, will be excited to know that the Paris Marathon takes place on April 12, 2015. The major roads of the city are closed off as the runners race past the most iconic sites of Paris – giving you, the spectators, over 26 miles of potential viewing platforms. Expect a large crowd, so get to your preferred spot early!

Literature

If you prefer the page to the pace, spring in Paris will not disappoint… The highly-anticipated ‘Salon du Livre’ (Book Fair) is taking place from 20-23 March, featuring thousands of stands, from travel writing and cookery to children’s reading and comic books. If you’re coming with book-hungry teenagers, you’re in luck: tickets are free for under-18s.

Music

Playing on the (incorrect) cliché that the Paris suburbs are boring, the Banlieue Bleues is a series of jazz-based events happening just the other side of the belt highway that surrounds Paris.

Likewise, the Chorus Festival takes place in Hauts-de-Seine, a state on Paris’ outskirts, from 27 March – April 6. Over 60 concerts, some of which are free, will be taking place in thirty of Paris’ neighboring towns. A taster of some of the names on the line-up: Mademoiselle K, Stefan Eicher, Irma, Jeanne Cherhal, and Stacey Kent.

Movies

We might be in for a few spring showers, but never fear, there’s a cozy seat in a movie theater waiting for you! From March 22-24 the Printemps du Cinéma event offers a wide selection of movies to the general public for only 3€50.

Art

Of course, Paris always has a variety of art exhbitions, no matter the season. Our favorites set to open in spring 2015 are the legendary Spanish artist Velázquez at the Grand Palais (March 25- July 13), not just for the stunning setting, and Napoléon et Paris: Rêves d’une capitale, at our favorite Carnavalet museum from April 8 through August 30. A calendar of exhibitions in Paris can be found here.

What about if you’re in Paris right now? How about a fast-track past the queues and a guided tour of the stunning Château de Versailles and its gardens? May the Sun King smile on you!
