The Best Green Christmas Markets in Berlin

The Best Green Christmas Markets in Berlin

Berlin, as with most world cities, is pretty obsessed with all things environmental. This year that is well and truly reflected by it’s Yuletide Market offerings. Guilt free shopping at it’s best.

1. 20th Berlin Environmental and Christmas Market

(Sophien Str – S-Bahn Hackescher Markt)
1st – 20th of Dec (Each Weekend)

This is located in the old Jewish quarter of Berlin, actually in one of the oldest streets in the city. It is held on each of the four weekends before Christmas, so you have plenty of time to check it out over the coming weeks. The stalls focus on creative and hip designer gifts that are environmentally sustainable, natural and fair trade. The edible treats are generally regional products made by local vendors. The market and it’s ecological concept has been so popular in recent years that many environmental organisations set up camp to present information about their projects. All in all a very feel good market.

2. Green Christmas Market

(Kollwitzplatz – U-Bahn Eberswalder Str)
29th Nov until 20th Dec. 12 – 7pm (Each Sunday)

Every Thursday throughout the year, the beautiful square ‘Kollwitzplatz’, in the hip district of Prenzlaurberg, plays host to an eco-market. On the Sundays of advent they offer a festive version there-of. All the products for sale are exclusively manufactured to very strict environmentally friendly standards. There are around 50 different stalls, with local produce, textiles and crafts. This is the perfect market to take young children to, as there is an outstanding little playground at the centre of the square, as well pony rides! Many stalls sell pretty exquisite hand-made wooden toys.

3. The Green Market Berlin

(Neue Heimat in R.A.W Gelände – S+U Bahn Warschauer Str)
12 – 13th Dec

Calling all Vegans and Vegetarians! This is your market! As well as offering meat and dairy free products from around Germany, they also have live music and food trucks. This is hosted in a beautifully renovated former East German Railway repair yard. Make sure you try the German Lebkuchen.
