4 Can’t-Miss Bars In Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin
Berlin is a BIG city and sometimes it can be a little overwhelming where to start. So many choices, such little time. Where to eat, where to drink, where to sleep and where to party? I have compiled a list of the best places (according to us!) on where to eat and drink once our tours have finished.
Prater Garten
Berlin has more bars and clubs per capita than any other city in Europe but surprisingly not a huge amount of beer gardens. Beer Gardens are generally much more common and popular in the South of Germany but if you are to visit one while in Berlin make sure its Prater.
This is Berlin’s biggest and oldest beer garden serving its first customer way back in 1837! Set in a huge garden under chestnut trees with seating for up to 600, this is a self service bar serving a variety of different beers and snacks to accompany them. The beer garden also has an attached restaurant serving traditional German fare with an outstanding schnitzel.

Dr. Pong
This place would be easy to miss but make sure you don’t. Walking down Eberswalde strasse there is a door opening which leads you, via a graffiti filled sliding door into an empty, garage like room. Empty, aside from one thing: a table tennis table!
Dr Pong is one of several very popular table tennis bars in Berln. Things here are simple. Head to the bar, buy a beer and ask for a table tennis paddle and then join the back of the queue. Here the game is ’round the world’ where you hit the ball once and run around to the other side of the table. The game keeps spinning until someone misses and then it all starts again until its down to the last two shootout!
Don’t expect comfy seats and a nice ambiance, people come here to listen to the resident DJ, perch themselves on the windowsill while they smoke and wait for the next round of table tennis. A really fun bar at the start or the end of your night out.

Zu Mir oder Zu Dir
This bar translates as ‘your place or my place’ and has been quenching the thirst of night owls for years. Open until 2am everyday of the week, they keep the lights here low and the dj always seems to spin fantastic tunes. This place is popular with both locals and tourists alike.

Weinerei
A cafe during the day but by night a unique bar, one that really wouldn’t work in most other cities in the world. Berlin is such a trusting city, from the lack of barriers on the metro system all the way to the Weinerei concept. Every night after 8pm head to this bar, rent a wine glass for 2 euro from the bar staff and proceed to choose from the wide range of red, white and rose wine on offer. Pour yourself as much or as little wine as you like.
If you are lucky enough to be there when they also provide a buffet of food (usually simple and easy to share) then grab a plate and fill up. Now sadly this doesn’t all come for free but the difference with this bar is that you can choose exactly how much you pay. The bar leaves a glass bowl next to the exit so as you depart they trust you to judge the value of the wine/food/ambiance for yourself and pay as you see fit. Tip: aim for paying around €2 per glass of wine.
