Good to know
Haarlem is exceptionally bike-friendly with an extensive network of segregated cycle tracks and calm streets. The terrain is flat throughout the city and surrounding countryside, making riding smooth and relaxed for cyclists of all abilities.
The best cycling season runs from April through October, when the weather is generally mild and daylight hours are long. Spring is especially popular as nearby flower fields burst into bloom, while summer offers pleasant temperatures for coastal rides.
Most guided routes wind through the central Grote Markt, past Saint Bavo Church, and along the scenic Spaarne River to Molen De Adriaan. Tours also frequently visit the medieval Amsterdamse Poort and the leafy paths of the Haarlemmerhout park.
A regular bike is well-suited for exploring the compact, flat city center. However, an e-bike provides helpful motor assistance if you plan to venture further into the windy coastal dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland or the surrounding tulip regions.
Yes, the flat landscapes and protected cycling infrastructure make Haarlem ideal for novice cyclists and families. Many operators provide child seats, cargo bikes, and youth bicycles to accommodate riders of various ages.
