غالي هي العاصمة الإدارية للمقاطعة الجنوبية ورابع أكبر مدينة في سريلانكا. قبل وصول البرتغاليين في القرن السادس عشر، كانت غالي الميناء الرئيسي في الجزيرة ووصلت إلى أوج تطورها في القرن الثامن عشر خلال فترة الاستعمار الهولندي. غالي هي أفضل مثال لمدينة محصنة بناها البرتغاليون في جنوب وجنوب شرق آسيا، وتظهر التفاعل بين الأساليب المعمارية البرتغالية والتقاليد المحلية. قلعة غالي هي موقع تراث عالمي وهي أكبر قلعة متبقية في آسيا بناها المحتلون الأوروبيون.
