Santorini features rugged volcanic terrain characterized by steep hills, winding roads, and narrow village pathways. While main highways can have significant vehicular traffic, coastal plains and rural inland paths offer pleasant cycling routes away from the crowds.

Spring and autumn, particularly from April to May and September to October, offer the most favorable cycling conditions. During these shoulder seasons, temperatures remain comfortable and the roads experience fewer tourist vehicles than in midsummer.

Guided routes frequently explore the quieter southern and central areas, including traditional villages like Megalochori and Emporio. Tours also commonly visit coastal highlights such as Perissa Beach, the Akrotiri peninsula, and scenic vineyards.

An electric bike is highly recommended due to the island's prominent elevation changes, steep ridges, and persistent summer winds. Motorized pedal assistance allows riders to comfortably conquer long ascents and explore farther without excessive physical exhaustion.

Most tours accommodate beginners and older children by utilizing electric bikes and selecting flatter, rural itineraries. However, very young children or complete novices may find the shared roads and variable terrain challenging.
